Cowboy's Trivia Question of the Week!
Who is the oldest player on the Cowboys' roster?
Last Week's Answer:
Danny White

Finally, Something For The Giants To Talk About
Thank god for that butt-kickin'. I was sick and tired of hearing about
how much better the Giants defense was going to be. They were
still getting used to their new scheme. They weren't at full strength.
The excuses were endless. I heard so much of this talk for the
Giants and the media that I was sick. I didn't hear Dallas making
excuses about how they were still learning a new defense. We
simply decided to let our actions on the field show who is still the
best team in the NFC East.
All the talk about the Giants defense was just that, a lot of talk.
Their fearsome pass rush tallied two sacks, one of which was on a
botched play. The pressure they mounted on Tony Romo wasn't
even close to the pressure we put on Eli Manning. In case you
haven't noticed, our front seven is getting consistent pressure every
week and we get 3-4 sacks every week. You can pretty much count
on that. This unit isn't leading the league in sacks, but don't
underestimate the impact Phillips has had on this part of the game.
I will say that the Giants defense played us a bit tougher than last
time. After all, we scored terrible 31 points compared to 45 in Week
1. That is about what I expected in this game. I knew they would
play better as a unit, but they still don't have the players to match
up with our offense. Guess what Giants fans, Sam Madison is still
old, over two months older actually, Aaron Ross is still a rookie,
Antonio Pierce still can't cover Jason Witten by himself, Flozell
Adams and Marc Colombo still dominate Umienyora and Strahan
when you guys play us. Certain things will never change. Heck, it is
the same way for us. Roy Williams still can't cover Jeremy Shockey
as he seems to go off in every game against us.
Tony Romo was masterful in this game avoiding the rush and
making accurate throws. He clearly outplayed Eli Manning. Both of
his long TDs to Terrell Owens were right on the money.
Troy Aikman summed up our offense perfectly. He said that you
can slow them down for awhile, but they just keep wearing on you
with their playmakers and big offensive line and eventually they are
going to explode. It may not be in the first half, but sooner or later
this offense is going to figure you out and put up their customary
30+ points. You may think you did a good job of stopping us and
you look up and we have 31 on the board. It is no mystery why we
are 8-1. We score 33 points a game which is more than enough
when our defense is playing good ball too. I don't see us losing
many games this year when we score 27+ points because of
defense is stout.
Jason Witten made a big impact on the game even with 12 receiving
yards. He made several key blocks in the running game and he
helped in pass protection too. He also drew a double team every
time he actually went out in a pass protection.
I hope all the Cowboys fans who have hated on Terrell Owens give
him his due. Like the guy our not, our offense would not be the
same without him. He is on pace for a monster year and he hasn't
been in the least bit of trouble.
Patrick Crayton did a good job in this game. He broke two tackles in
his late 2nd quarter TD catch and run. He isn't very fast, but he is
pretty good after the catch. He also made several clutch 3rd down
catches.
Julius Jones looked good yesterday. Better than Barber in fact. He
was hitting the hole hard and he broke a few tackles. It wasn't our
best day running the ball, but we didn't run it very many plays.
Our front seven is looking better every week. I'm finally seeing
Chris Canty and Marcus Spears get a little pressure. Jay Ratliff is a
beast as well. He is so much better than Tank Johnson right now it
is not even funny.
Speaking of Johnson, he didn't look very good. He made an athletic
play on his sack, but he wasn't playing the nose right. Instead of
dropping to a knee and disrupting a double team, he was trying to
break through it. In doing so I saw him get drove backwards and or
out of the running lane on several equations. It isn't a physical
problem, he just needs to figure out what he is supposed to be
doing. You can't vacate the middle trying to spin past an offensive
lineman. He will be fine. He just needs to get some experience. He
really has only started one full season and he hasn't played in nine
months. He looked winded at times, but that was from a lack of
football conditioning. I was impressed with his body as you could
tell he has been taking care of himself since his suspension. He will
spell Ratliff, but he isn't and probably never will be as good.
Ware and Ellis have both provided consistent pressure the past
month. They aren't taking over games, but expect a sack a piece
from each a game. I also liked what I saw from Anthony Spencer in
his limited time. He seems to be coming along.
The one thing that really kept the Giants in the game as long as
they were was the personal foul penalties. Some of them were
bogus like the Bradie James one. Jacobs knocked James over after
the whistle. James got up and pushed Jacobs with one arm and
Jacobs flopped drawing the flag. If not for those penalties, we would
probably have given up only 13 points.
I was annoyed with many players on our defense with their lack of
physicality toward Brandon Jacobs. I know he is big, but the only
guys I saw consistently making tackles on him were Roy Williams
and Bradie James. Roy Williams single handedly slowed down
Jacobs in this game. Roy had a dynamic game in run support.
Jacobs would have went for 150 if we would have had another
safety in.
Our coverage did a good job all afternoon. Shockey had too many
catches, but that was because we picked wanted to make sure their
receivers didn't beat us. Having two healthy corners really helped
as Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer were complete non-factors.
Ken Hamlin keeps making plays. His fourth interception of the
season was a spectacular snag on a ball sailed by Manning. Ellis
did his part by hitting Manning's wrist as he threw.
This wasn't the best day for our kickers. Nick Folk drilled his only
FG attempt of 44 yards. He seems to hit every one right down the
center. He never seems to get lucky with one that sneaks inside the
upright. His kick-offs were horrible though. They would routinely
land around the 15 yard line. Matt McBriar's only two punts were
really short. His first one was only 35 yards. That is the shortest
punt I've seen from him in a big punt situation in three years.
Overall, it was an impressive performance. I'm a little surprised we
won both of these tough NFC East road game especially in
dominating fashion. This goes to show we are for real. We are
easily the best team in the division. The Giants are solid, but if we
played ten times we would beat them seven or eight times. They
would need major mistakes on our part because we simply have two
much firepower on offense for them to defend.
Tim's Talk: Week 11
1. These guys continue to amaze me. I mean going into what
seemed to me the most hostile crowd because the Philly crowd sure
did not seem hostile and just taking apart the defense was amazing.
2. I still am going to gripe about the stupid bonehead penalties. If
this team is serously going to go deep into the playoffs, these
penalties are going to have to stop. Taunting, hitting and shoving
players? The one that bothered me was the taunting because we
had just robbed the Giants of any momentum going into the half
aftger Craytons score and instead of burying them and forcing them
to run the clock, we gave up a field goal which is enough to spark
momentum. Thank God the Giants have a QB that still cannot figure
out how to get the play off by the time the play clock expires.
3. Wow, Terrell Owens really seems to be maturing and I am now
wondering if that prediction of a blowup is going to ring true now.
4. I will count Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre as
teams that have a better QB than the Cowboys right now. Tony
Romo is the real deal.
5. Remember when I said that the great QBs have bad games? Well
Tony Romo's 5 interception game sure looks a lot better than the 6
interception game of Peyton Manning. I sure don't see anyone
questioning Mannings ability the way they questioned Romo's.
6. The real test is coming though because the Cowboys have not
had a winning record in the second half particularly in December. If
another collapse happens, no more blaming the story about how
Parcells wore out these players and that he was too tough. No more
excuses guys, you have a coach that is easy going laid back and is
not pounding you as much as the Tuna would have and Julius
Jones better not say he is running like a robot, or TO complaining
about how Parcells is to set in his ways or anything else.
7. This brings an interesting point, if the Cowboys run the table and
win the Super Bowl, who gets the credit? Mr Fix it or the Tuna? I
they both deserve credit. PArcells did not leave the cupboard bare
and Phillips has not exactly screwed it up because he does know
how to coach. I mean look at the Chargers situation. I mean Norv
Turner almost became our head coach and have you ever seen a
team look so deflated after the ugly weird win the Chargers had
over the Colts? I just don't believe the Cowboys would be 8-1 with
Norv Turner at this point.
8. And of course Jerry Jones does deserve credit it for bring in
Phillips and for bringing in Jason Garrett. Problem is that Garrett will
probably be gone and be a head coach after this year and I am just
hoping GMs will look at his inexperience and not hire him because
of that and we keep him here a few more years.
