Cowboy's Trivia Question of the Week!
Who is the oldest player on the Cowboys' roster?
Last Week's Answer:
Danny White

Tim's Talk: Week 11
1. These guys continue to amaze me. I mean going into what
seemed to me the most hostile crowd because the Philly crowd sure
did not seem hostile and just taking apart the defense was amazing.
2. I still am going to gripe about the stupid bonehead penalties. If
this team is serously going to go deep into the playoffs, these
penalties are going to have to stop. Taunting, hitting and shoving
players? The one that bothered me was the taunting because we
had just robbed the Giants of any momentum going into the half
aftger Craytons score and instead of burying them and forcing them
to run the clock, we gave up a field goal which is enough to spark
momentum. Thank God the Giants have a QB that still cannot figure
out how to get the play off by the time the play clock expires.
3. Wow, Terrell Owens really seems to be maturing and I am now
wondering if that prediction of a blowup is going to ring true now.
4. I will count Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre as
teams that have a better QB than the Cowboys right now. Tony
Romo is the real deal.
5. Remember when I said that the great QBs have bad games? Well
Tony Romo's 5 interception game sure looks a lot better than the 6
interception game of Peyton Manning. I sure don't see anyone
questioning Mannings ability the way they questioned Romo's.
6. The real test is coming though because the Cowboys have not
had a winning record in the second half particularly in December. If
another collapse happens, no more blaming the story about how
Parcells wore out these players and that he was too tough. No more
excuses guys, you have a coach that is easy going laid back and is
not pounding you as much as the Tuna would have and Julius
Jones better not say he is running like a robot, or TO complaining
about how Parcells is to set in his ways or anything else.
7. This brings an interesting point, if the Cowboys run the table and
win the Super Bowl, who gets the credit? Mr Fix it or the Tuna? I
they both deserve credit. PArcells did not leave the cupboard bare
and Phillips has not exactly screwed it up because he does know
how to coach. I mean look at the Chargers situation. I mean Norv
Turner almost became our head coach and have you ever seen a
team look so deflated after the ugly weird win the Chargers had
over the Colts? I just don't believe the Cowboys would be 8-1 with
Norv Turner at this point.
8. And of course Jerry Jones does deserve credit it for bring in
Phillips and for bringing in Jason Garrett. Problem is that Garrett will
probably be gone and be a head coach after this year and I am just
hoping GMs will look at his inexperience and not hire him because
of that and we keep him here a few more years.
It Wasn't Pretty, But I'll Take It
We weren't nearly as impressive as we were the last two weeks, but
we took the Redskins' best effort and still came away with a victory.
That just goes to show how good of a team this is.
This was the worst performance from the defense in awhile. We
gave up way too many passing yards. Still though, we made the
stops we had to make and we still only gave up 23 points. 23
points isn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but I'll take it
every week because our offense has yet to score less than 24
points in any game. We don't have to play great defense to win as
good as our offense is.
Terrell Owens had a monster game. He is on pace for a record
setting season. He isn't dropping passes, he isn't complaining, and
he is winning games for us. Four touchdowns in one game is all I
really needed to say.
Tony Romo continued his stellar play. He handled Gurode's three
horrible snaps with grace. There is no other quarterback in the
NFL that can consistently turn a snap over the head into a big pass
completion. His accuracy was spot on like it has been every week.
We begin to take it for granted, but if you haven't noticed the guy
doesn't miss receivers. Jason Campbell had a great game, but he
missed several throws down the field. Romo hit Owens in stride on
all three long touchdowns which is good considering we needed
every one of them.
This was not a good day for the running game. We never could
seem to establish the run game. We have struggled to run in the
past three weeks. Again though I love how Garrett won't beat his
head against a wall. Parcells would have run the ball 35 times in
this game for about 100 yards playing to be the first team to get to
20 points. Garrett kept calling pass plays and they paid off on a
day when we struggled to sustain drives.
Terence Newman is Mr. Clutch in the secondary. He has dropped a
several INTs the past few weeks, but his two interceptions have
come at critical times. He is the guy that gave us a chance to tie
the Buffalo game and he thwarted the Redskins second to last drive
when they were really threatening us.
Can anyone say defensive player of the year and DeMarcus Ware
at the same time? He added two more sacks and a forced fumble.
He is the only guy to mount a consistent pass rush. Chris Samuels
will have nightmares tonight because of #94.
This was a tough day for our entire secondary. Chris Cooley was
giving Roy Williams fits. He definitely struggles against elite tight
ends, but you have to remember that their isn't a safety in the NFL
that can consistently cover Jason Witten on the other side. I
figured Cooley would have a good game, but I'm disappointed that
Santana Moss had a big game. Our corners didn't have that tough
of an assignment in this game on paper, but they couldn't cover
their receivers. We got decent pressure on Campbell but he was
having no trouble finding open receivers.
One thing that shouldn't be overlooked with Campbell though is his
attempts. When a guy throws 54 times, he is going to rack up the
passing yards. The bottom line was we forced them to kick three
field goals and we forced two turnovers.
This was a game when our stout run defense might have hurt us.
The Redskins completely abandoned the run in the 2nd half.
Sometimes I wonder if it is not better to have a team run on you just
enough so that they stick with it. There is nothing I love better than
when teams run on 1st and 2nd down against us. That usually sets
up about a 3rd & 7. It is much easier to force a punt in that
situation than when a team passes three straight times.
Our kick-off coverage struggled in this game. Nick Folk's kick-offs
were fairly deep, but Rock Cartwright had to have averaged around
35 yards a return.
Overall, I was impressed by how badly we played and we still
managed to win. The Redskins probably played one of their best
games of the season and still lost. Now, we get the 2-8 Jets on
Thanksgiving Day. They beat the Steelers in overtime today. I'm
not too concerned as bad teams usually don't play good two games
in a row. We should get past them and then we can prepare for the
big showdown against the Packers.
