18.        WR DeSean Jackson
19.        G Brandon Albert
20.        S Kenny Phillips
21.        CB Aqib Talib
22.        CB Mike Jenkins
23.        OT Chris Williams
24.        QB Brian Brohm
25.        DB Reggie Smith
26.        WR Malcom Kelly
27.        DE Quentin Groves
28.        DT Kentwan Balmer
29.        OT Gosder Cherilus
30.        RB Felix Jones
31.        WR Mario Manningham
32.        WR Devin Thomas
33.        LB Dan Connor
34.        DE Lawrence Jackson
35.        OL Carl Nicks

Based on this draft board, pick #22 will probably come down to
players ranked between #13 and #25.  We will definitely look to
draft any player in the Top 20 that slides, but I don’t really us
taking anyone rated lower than our Top 25.  We don’t need to
reach for anyone.

Here is that list of players again:

1.        RB Rashard Mendenhall
2.        WR Limas Sweed
3.        RB Jonathan Stewart
4.        CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
5.        OT Jeff Otah
6.        WR DeSean Jackson
7.        G Brandon Albert
8.        S Kenny Phillips
9.        CB Aqib Talib
10.        CB Mike Jenkins
11.        OT Chris Williams
12.        QB Brian Brohm
13.        DB Reggie Smith

We need to take the best player available at either running back,
corner, or wide receiver.  The only two runners in this range are
Mendenhall or Stewart.  Steward especially isn’t really talked about
as a possibility, but if he is there at #22 he is a possibility.  He isn’t
the speed compliment to Barber, but he is a better back than Felix
Jones whom I think may be a bit overrated.  I like him, but not
with our 1st pick.  I don’t have a problem with him at #28.   You
have to take the best back, not which one is a good compliment.
In reality, the best compliment is the guy that can run for the most
yards.

The two receivers in this range are Sweed and Jackson.  Jackson
stock has slipped since he measured in at 5’9 169 at the combine.
He was originally viewed as a Top 15 pick, but several recent mocks
have him being available at #22.  Interestingly, these same mocks
have Dallas passing on him which I don’t see happening if he is on
the board.  He will never be a true #1, but he is a good receiver
and an excellent punt returner.  He would give us an added
dimension we lack on this team.  He could be a #2 receiver and one
of the top punt returners in the game.

Sweed has everything you look for in a big #1 receiver.  He ran well
at the combine and his stock seems to be rising.  Teams likely have
varying grades on him though considering he missed most of last
season due to injury.

Cornerback seems the most likely pick at #22.  There are four guys
in this range and surely one of them will be available.  A guy to
watch for is Reggie Smith.  He hasn’t ran yet this off-season so
that will effect his stock.  I think he profiles more as a safety, but
he could play corner this season and move to safety if Hamlin or
Roy is gone after next season.

There is no way to accurately predict who we will take.  Heck, we
don’t even know who will be available.  My little list does help
show what are options might be and who I think we should take.  I
would go strictly by this board and take whoever is available at one
of those three positions if this was a real draft board.  Having
three positions that you are targeting allow you to take one of the
top players available.  We shouldn’t have to reach for anybody
considering how many guys at those positions are in that range.

Pick #28 is even more of an unknown since it will be largely based
off of what we did at #22.  This pick will be narrowed down to the
two positions we didn’t address at #22.  This makes us more
vulnerable to reaching for a player.  Jerry has shown he is fairly
good at not reaching the past few years in the 1st round.  If he
doesn’t like what he sees, he does his best to trade back.

The guy we draft here should be one of these guys based on my
rankings:

1.        S Kenny Phillips
2.        CB Aqib Talib
3.        CB Mike Jenkins
4.        OT Chris Williams
5.        QB Brian Brohm
6.        DB Reggie Smith
7.        WR Malcom Kelly
8.        DE Quentin Groves
9.        DT Kentwan Balmer
10.        OT Gosder Cherilus
11.        RB Felix Jones
12.        WR Mario Manningham
13.        WR Devin Thomas

Assuming we took a corner with our first pick, we hopefully can
take a running back or receiver without reaching.  Receiver seems
to be the most likely.  You have three guys available in this range
compared to just one running back.  Malcom Kelly will very likely be
gone and he may even be a Top 20 pick, but he hasn’t run yet so
the jury is still undecided.

The most likely players for this pick according to my chart are
Jones, Manningham, and Thomas.  These guys fall right in the range
of #28 so you aren’t really reaching.  None of these guys are
exceptional values, but they aren’t all that bad either.  I think at
least two or maybe all three of those players will be available at
that spot.  I don’t care which one we take.  The Cowboys know
about these players than I do so I want them to take whoever out
of those guys they think is the best.

If you go straight off my board, the picks for Dallas would be CB
Mike Jenkins and RB Felix Jones.  This isn’t a mock draft though.
This is a list of the best players.  That is significant because need
plays a big role in who gets drafted.  Still, going off this board
those are the two guys you come up with.
