Kick-off Specialist Rankings
|
Name Height Weight 40 Time College
1. Steve Weatherford 6'3 215 4.76 Ilinois
Strengths: An excellent punter. Great kick-off man. Has hit some long field goals throughout his
career.
Weaknesses: Takes too long getting the ball off. Needs some refine his technique. Lacks a super
strong leg.
How He Fits: A perfect option. We wouldn't need a kick-off specialist because he could be our
punter and kick-off guy. Plus, if we had to attempt a super long field goal, he could go out and have a
decent chance of making it.
2. Ryan Plackemeier 6'3 235 5.12 Wake Forest
Strengths: Excellent leg strength. Top punter. Superb kick-off guy. Can kick field goals if
necessary.
Weaknesses: Needs to work on directional kicks. Inconsistent and will shank a few.
How He Fits: Kills two birds with one stone just like Weatherford. Also adds the bonus of long
distance field goals.
3. Josh Huston 6'1 195 4.97 Ohio St.
Strengths: A powerful leg. Shows some potential as a place kicker. Can do a little punting. Should
excel as a kick-off man.
Weaknesses: Not very accurate. Inconsistent. Only started for one year. Probably can't be our
punter so he would be exclusively a kick-off guy/developmental kicker.
How He Fits: Probably best kick-off guy of the bunch. I don't really want a guy that exclusively
kicks-off, but we could also groom him to take over for Vanderjagt in a few years.
4. Stephen Gostkowski 6'2 200 5.05 Memphis
Strengths: Very accurate inside 40 yards. Decent leg strength. Consistent and reliable.
Weaknesses: Not sure he would be a great kick-off guy. Limited upside.
How He Fits: Doesn't seem to fit too well, but we have worked him out so I guess Bill sees something
in him.
5. Jon Scifires 6'2 197 4.95 Missouri St.
Strengths: Good leg strength. Can hit 50+ yarders. Can do a little punting. Good kick-off guy.
Weaknesses: Not a great punter. Inconsistent place kicker.
How He Fits: Good developmental kicker who could earn a roster spot by kicking off.
